So why is it J-dubs don't celebrate birthdays? They wind up chopping each others heads off and serving them on platters or worshipping the birthay boy or girl? Been a while I can't remember the reasons. Anyway who cares!!

my friend told me today that she had passed on to her friend my story bout being a jw and how now i dont have any support since leaving the borg mainly coz im marrying a "worldy" person and how my parents dont really have alot to do with me now.
anyway jw's came to this ladies door this week and she plainly stated that she is not interested but they kept hounding and so she said im not interested in a religion that can shun family members for not marrying in your religion, or not believing in the same thing, thats not what a loving god does.
so these jw said "oh you must have the wrong religion we dont do those things"!!!
Yep, your right ES they are liars. I used to speak with them online and they lied about shunning, lied about 1975, lied about their stance on education. They lied about just about anything that painted them in a negative way. You'd tell them you had been a witness and knew better. And they'd call you a liar. Were we like that when we were J-dubs? I don't think I was. I hope I wasn't. It's scary to think about.

He may be a great guy but he is a brainwashed great guy. If you do start seeing him at some point you will be asked to go to the Kingdom Hall. Everyone there will seem wonderful. Everyone will treat you wonderfully as you are becoming indoctrinated (I know this sounds harsh and Orwellian but it is what it is). This is the love bombing phase. As the other posts have stated all the love and friendship you receive is contigent up your acceptance of everything the Watchertower teaches. Step out of line and it will all disapear literally overnight. It happened to me and it happened to many of the people posting here. If you do decide to start seeing him make yourself an "I TOLD YOU SO " file. Print posts you are reading here and file them in it for future reference.

i couldn't help myself....i felt rage building up inside but i tried to play it cool.
just coming off the ne apostafest and hearing everyones story just pissed me off when i saw those two dubs standing there.

i made an interesting find last evening.
i stumbled across a site purporting to be a jehovah's witness reform movement.
while it sees value in jehovah's witnesses, its primary purpose is to reform the governing body.
I think it shows hope that there are jw reform groups but I think they are living in Fantasy Land. If you took out all the pieces of the Watchtower that are harmful or wrong there wouldn't be much left. It would be trying to pick out the gray hairs on your head when you start going gray, eventually you would be bald because you're going to keep finding more. They could even keep the name Jehovah's Witnesses because even Jehovah is a false name.

i would think a lot but is there any way of knowing what the percent would be?
i have seen cases where the husband didn't believe and the wife didn't believe but they kept their true feelings to themselves for years out of fear.

These ones eventually left but I am wondering how many choose to stay and go through the motions. Just the thought of someone doing this makes me cringe but I think there is a lot of this going on. There is a huge price to pay if word gets out they don't believe and I think there are a whole lot who aren't prepared to pay it.

I don't think you could have said it any better. You gave them a lot to think about without overwelming them. If they ever start using their brains again the seed you planted may take root.

i was one, when in, that believed it was the best thing to share your talents with those of the bretheren.
where you a plumber, a carpenter, an auto mechanic?
then it would behoove you to take those skills and give them to the community of your brothers and sisters.
I was in construction in my early years as a dub so I wound up working on K Halls now and then. I remember a friend of mine and me having to redo a lot of things the vounteers who had no experience in contruction messed up. I really didn't feel used because I like the work and the people I worked with. Much better than spending Saturday morning knocking on doors. I remember one time fixing a brother's mother's roof. I did about $500. worth of work and was bought a breakfast at IHOP as payment. I didn't mind because I knew she couldn't afford to hire someone to do it. In it area I was from it was stress that a jdub should pay another jbub fair market value for services rendered and I think most of them seemed to abide by that rule. If you did something cheap it was usually because you wanted to not because someone was trying to screw you.
Like Richie I helped quite a few people move and when I moved there was no shortage of volunteers. I felt kind of bad about my last move as witness. I had quite a few young brothers help me move and shortly there after quit the dubs. I kind of felt like I used them even though at the time I didn't know I was leaving. Probably the only guilt I felt over leaving.
